Dharma and Adharma

The first manifestation of Spirit is Cosmic Light. As the meditating devotee goes deeper and deeper he/she finds the inner world full of this divine light.

When the individual jeeva identifies itself with matter and limited body consciousness this divine light is masked. He is then in darkness. This state is 'Adharma'. Such an individual is prone to making errors and committing mistakes. He lacks the discrimination to know what is right and what is wrong.

When the individual jeeva realizes that the pleasures of the senses are like the waters of a mirage and begins to meditate to get out of the clutches of the shareera (body) he/she begins to identify more with the Spirit and less with matter. This guidance comes from a God realized Guru. As more and more divine light reveals itself in the inner sky by the Guru, 'Dharmatva' is being established. When he is one with the Spirit he is established in 'Dharma'. This state is also called 'Gurutva'

We must strive to meditate deeper and deeper everyday and be established completely in 'Dharma'.

What is liberation?

Longing for something causes sorrow. When we have received it the fear of losing it causes sorrow. After we have lost it the memory of that causes further sorrow. This is how the common person leads his or her daily life.

The wise, discriminating man observes this as a play of prakritri (nature) and remains unattached. Such a person is roaming around in this world of temptations but is not affected by it. This is true liberation !

Steady Light

When the air is restless the lamp flickers. So is with the mind. When the mind is restless, the inner light is not steady. As the mind is 'stilled' through deep meditation, the inner light becomes steady. The power of this constant steady light can burn the accumulated impressions from several lives (samskaras).

Strive harder to meditate deeper and deeper everyday. Hold on to the silence that follows after the meditation. Established in this inner Silence do your daily duties for the day.

YES, Regularly, daily one must meditate irrespective of the senses pulling you towards material attachments. Slowly , slowly the mind can be conquered. A conquered mind can do ' a great good ' for this world.

Regularity

Do not give up meditation by making few half-hearted efforts. Initially you will find that the monkey mind is not in the same state everyday. Somedays it is well tamed. Some days it is vicious and restless. Regardless of the vacillating mind, be consistent in the meditative practice. Also, do not let astral lights and astral sounds in meditation increase your enthusiasm and lack of inner light, sound depress. Be neutral to the results. Again, the most important thing is ardent regularity in the meditative practice. Be consistent. Try and wake up at the same time every morning. Slowly, slowly through proper habits of pranayama and meditation the mind can be conquered.

A peaceful mind can accomplish anything !

After Effects !

A restless breath signifies a restless mind; a calm breath signifies a calm mind.

Meditate nicely and deeply every day. Hold onto the after effects after meditation. The after-effects are peace, harmony, bliss and silence. This cannot be described in words. It is felt by the meditating devotee.

Inner Guru

Once the inner Guru, the Guru Shakti is awakened through the grace of the Mother, it will begin to guide you. If you are kind and compassionate to others, the inner Guru will be happy. If you are unkind, harsh and manipulative towards others, the inner Guru becomes unhappy. Your spiritual practice will then suffer. You will know it.

No one is perfect to begin with. But as long one strives towards perfection (oneness with Soul), towards the state of pure love, recognizing ones weaknesses and rectifying them, doing every action in the name of God, the inner Guru will rise to the peak and begin to dance - just like baby krshna on a 1000 headed serpent (sahasrara). Then it will be all bliss!

Ego Consciousness

Ego body consciousness stands as the most powerful enemy in the path to God Realization. Proper habits, techniques of Pranayama can help detach the mind and the prana (life force) from the senses. This can help realize our fundamental nature (Atman) !

Perfection in proper habits of Pranayama will assist in overcoming this deluded ego consciousness. Once the false Ego leaves the bliss of Samadhi (pure Ego) dawns !

If any fluctuation in the material world, happiness or sadness, profit or loss, triumph or failure, ups and downs, likes and dislikes 'affect' us, then this means that 'there is work to be done'. Wise man remains detached and observes the ever changeable world as a drama/dream/play.

Continuous meditative practise helps us achieves this state of constancy and unruffled-ness. Then there is only Bliss. The quality of Soul is Bliss. And there is no opposite word for Bliss in the English Dictionary. This is 'Adwaita' (non dual).

Inner Light

As soon as the mind gets detached from the senses and the prana (life force) moves up into kutastha, the inner sky is filled with infinite light and sound. The power of this light has the capacity to burn up the past samskaras. As the weight of the samskaras decreases, the meditating devotee experiences more and more bliss. He then realizes that the mundane happiness that one derived from sense indulgence were like the waters of a mirage.

Retrograde - Gangotri!

Ordinarily prana ganga flows downwards, from sahasrara to muladhara. When the mind disengages from 'vishaya' (sense objects), the prana is now ready to be uplifted back to the source. This source is 'gangotri'. 'Ganga' means the life-force (prana). Tri is the junction point at the ajna chakra. So Gangotri is the junction point from where prana ganga emanates. Retracing the prana ganga back to its source, the Gangotri , is termed as 'vakri gati' or simply 'Retrograde Phenomena' in Jyotisha. This 'pratyahara' is indeed a great blessing. Retrogression also means a deep desire to go back where one came from - Gangotri!

Acceptance is a great practice. Allow the Lord to work through your individual will. That individual will then takes the role of cosmic will. Only calmness gives the sense to do right. In front of a calm and unruffled person even a roaring lion becomes a pussycat.

The fruit of Guru guided meditative practice is a calm, unruffled, quiet mind.

Observe your own mind. Restlessness has its roots in desires. A flickering mind is unstable, prone to error in judgement. Deeply meditate in the early morning hours, make the mind steady, still, unwavering - then go to work. Put your effort in the work consciously. That work will surely give good fruits. Surrender the fruits to the Lord. This is 'karma yoga'. Life will then be blissful!

Whatever you see is not real. That which is 'adrshya' (invisible) is the only reality (spirit). Identify more and more with this invisible Spirit.

Today is Ekadashi Tithi

Today is Ekadashi. Let me give some meanings. 'Eka' means 'One'. 'Das' means 'Ten'. So 'Ekadashi' means '1+10' or the 11th tithi of the moon cycle. This is the literal meaning. There is also a spiritual meaning. 'Ekadashi' can be split into 'Eka' + 'Da' + 'Shi'. 'Eka' means 'One'. 'Da' is from 'dahana' in sanskrit meaning 'to burn'. 'Shi' means the 'Supreme Soul. Through the two physical eyes we see externally in the material world. Through the all important singular third eye we see inwards the beauty of the Soul. So 'Ekadashi' talks about the all important singular third eye. The agni, the fire, that pours out of the third eye assists in controlling, fasting on sense objects of temptations. One who's third eye is awakened is easily able to fast on sense objects by not being tempted by them. This is adwaita-tatva. This is the real fasting on Ekadashi. Indulging and yielding to the temptations is akin to non-fasting.

Astrologically, the tithi is ruled by Mars. Mars represents fire. Fire burns away the agony, ignorance that stems from running after objects of temptation. The true fire is the fire that emanates from the third eye in deep meditation. This is akin to mental fasting. This is the true fasting. This is Ekadashi!

Esoteric spiritual meaning of Lakshmana

Lakshmana was the brother of Shri Rama. Lakshmana can be split into 'Laksha' + 'Mana'. Laksha means 'goal'. Mana means 'mind'. Mind is wanderous by nature. True self control is discipline of the mind. True self control is to control the wandering, wavering mind. Mind can be disciplined if it is goal oriented. When the Mana (mind) is given some laksha (goal) is becomes quiet. Lakshmana was goal oriented in serving his brother Shri Rama selflessly. Similarly if we give our mind the task of observing the breath it quietens down. Then the mana (mind) attains its laksha(goal) - peaceful, tranquil state. This is 'Lakshmana'.

'Nava' means the number 9. There are 9 dwaras, gates in the human body. In vedic astrology the navami tithi lord is Surya (Sun). Rama is Surya Vamshi. Ignorance is akin to darkness. Sun dispels darkness. Sun represents the Soul, the Atma. When one practises yoga kriya fervently closing the nava dwaras , keeping faith in our Rishis one can visualize Atma Rama in the inner sky. This is Rama janma (birth of Rama). Even a minute glimpse of this tiny spark can dispel the darkness, ignorance of many births.

External sun is blinding. Internal Sun is soothing. One cannot stare at an external Sun for more than a few seconds. One can stare at the internal Sun with ease. Rama was born in Surya kula (lineage of Sun). He is Surya Vamshi. When the internal Rama Surya reveals itself, through deep meditation, it marks the birth of Shree Rama. We are to sacrifice our negatives, ego, jealousy, anger, hypocrisy etc.. in this Atma Rama Surya. This is the true celebration of Rama Navami.

Ravana - Uncontrolled Forest Fire!

Sanskrit is a highly conscious language. i had given the esoteric meaning of 'RAMA' in my previous post. Let me give the esoteric spiritual meaning of 'RAVANA'.

RAVANA also starts with the sanskrit akshara 'RA' meaning fire. So emphasis is again on Agni (Fire). VANA means 'forest'. VA is from VAM jala beeja (the seed of water). NA means 'Not'. So VANA can also mean 'no water' (dry). so this VANA is a 'dry forest'. A dry forest is ready fuel for fire to ignite. This forest is the forest of material desires. We fan these fiery desires by indulging in the senses. This gives rise to an uncontrolled blazing fire which can be called as RAVANA.

RAVANA is indeed that uncontrolled fire of never ending desires that consumes anything and everything that comes in its path.

Esoteric Spiritual Meaning of the word 'RAMA'

'RA' in sanskrit is the seed of fire (agni). 'MA' is for 'manah' (mind). So RAMA means a completely purified mind that has been burnt through deep meditation.

Fire is that element in which anything that is poured (dirt or otherwise) gets purified. In deep meditation our samskaras (past habits) are burnt in the fire of wisdom. This is the esoteric meaning of the word 'RAMA'.

So 'RAMA' is an absolutely, clean, clear and pure mind that has become one with the Soul, That is why this 'RAMA' is now given the status of an 'Atma', the Soul - Atma Rama!
